Born in Zimbabwe (formerly Southern Rhodesia), the self taught wildlife artist Anthony Lionel Pittaway painted the African bush-veld since his youth. His deep love and compassion for nature and wildlife stemmed from growing up in this remote area of Africa.

Anthony left Zimbabwe in his early twenties and emigrated to South Africa. He then traveled extensively throughout the continent on many painting safaris. For years he delved deep into Africa's heart to find nature's secrets and share them with the world. He discovered rare, savage beauty and depicted this in his wildlife art.

Although most of his early works belong in private collections and art galleries world-wide, his artwork has been showcased in numerous exhibitions internationally.

In his vast array of wildlife paintings, his greatest concern remained the endangered species. This inevitably he nurtured his keen support for wildlife conservation.

Anthony spent his sunset years in Greece, where he continued to paint his beloved African wildlife from his artist studio as well as scenic depictions of the beauty of Hellas.

In 2016, Anthony was laid to rest in Athens. His family honor his legacy by continuing to share his vast collection of art.

Anthony presents his oil painting of the rare and majestic White Tiger to  the curator of the Miami Metro Zoo, Mr. Bob Yokel, thereby marking the delivery of the zoo's first white cub tiger that was born in captivity. This historic event was documented by the Miami Herald and CBS news.
